Standup Fighting Rules

  • 1.0 Mandatory Safety Equipment
    1. Gloves. Competitors shall wear the following gloves;
      1. (Ages 13-15): 12 Ounces
      2. (Ages 10-12): 10 Ounces
      3. (Ages 5-9): 8 Ounces
    2. Mouth Guard.
    3. Groin Protection.
    4. Head-Guard. Head gear with face guard is mandatory for competitor’s ages 5-12 years old. Head gear with face guard is optional for competitor’s ages 13-15 years old.
    5. Body-guard / Shin-Instep guards.
    6. Approved hand wraps.
    7. Clothing: Clothing worn must be approved. Kickboxing shoes are NOT permitted. Jewelry or piercing accessories are prohibited during competition.
    8. No other objects may be worn during the competition: the use of grease, rubbing lineament or products likely to be harmful or objectionable to an opponent on the face, arms or any other part of the body is forbidden.
    9. Hair shall be trimmed or tied back in such a manner as not to interfere with the vision of either competitor or cover any part of a competitor’s face.
  • 2.0 Length of Match
    There shall be a total of two (2) rounds per bout. A full 1 minute of rest shall be given between the rounds. A third round, one (1) minute in duration, will be use for tie-breakers.
  • 3.0 Scoring
    1. Steps for awarding points. The points will be awarded whenever the competitor hits the opponent by punching, kicking, kneeing, lands on target, without being blocked or guarded against.
      1. A competitor wins the round when striking more with more skills than the opponent.
      2. A competitor wins the round when having a better technique execution.
      3. A competitor wins the round when showing less exhaustion.
      4. A competitor wins the round when showing more aggression.
      5. A competitor wins the round when having less infringement of the rules.
    2. Scoring System
      1. 10 points will be awarded to the competitor who wins the round, and the opponent 9 points. No fraction of points may be given.
      2. 10 points will be awarded to each competitor if they are even in the round.
      3. The competitor will lose 1 point if he received 1 warning.
    3. Non-Awarding of Points
      1. Hits which are blocked by the opponent’s arms or legs.
      2. Throwing the opponent without hitting.
      3. Hitting while infringing any of the rules.
    4. End of Tournament Contest: if, at the end of a contest having marked each round in accordance with directives, a judge finds that the competitors are equal in points, he shall award the decision to the competitor:
      1. Who has showed the most aggression or who has shown the better style or if equal in that respect;
      2. Who has shown the better defense (blocking, parrying, side-stepping, etc.) by which the opponent’s attacks have been made to miss.
  • 4.0 Competitor Contact
    1. ELBOWS – Are Not Allowed.
    2. KICKS
      1. No kicks are allowed to the groin, knee joints, or spine.
      2. Direct side kicks to the front of the legs are not allowed. Side kicks above the waist only.
      3. Kicks with the shins or foot to strike the body and head are allowed.
      4. Kicks with the shin or foot to the inside or outside of the thighs are allowed.
    3. KNEES
      1. No knees are allowed to the groin, knee joints, spine, or above the shoulder level to include the head and face.
      2. Knees are allowed to the legs and body below shoulder level.
    4. CLINCH
      1. Clinching is allowed as long as the competitor is active during the clinch.
    5. THROWS
      1. Hip throws are not allowed. The competitor cannot use the hip or shoulder to throw an opponent.
      2. Competitors are not allowed to lift their opponent off the ground to throw them.
    6. LEGS & KNEE HOLDS
      1. A Competitor is allowed to catch their opponent’s leg and knee. After taking 1 step the competitor holding the limb must execute a technique or let go.
  • 5.0 Fouls
    1. Cautions, Warning, and Disqualifications: the competitor who does not obey the instructions of the referee, acts against the competition rules, behaves in any unsportsmanlike manner, or commits fouls, can at the discretion of the referee, be cautioned, warned or disqualified without warning.

      A referee may, without stopping a contest, caution a competitor at some safe opportunity. If he intends to warn a competitor, he shall stop the contest, and will demonstrate the infringement. He will then point to the competitor and to each of the 3 judges. A referee having once administered a warning for a particular foul cannot issue a caution for the same type of offense.

      Three (3) cautions of the same type of foul will mandatory require a warning to be issued.

      Only (3) warnings may be given to the same competitor in one contest.

      The third warning brings automatic disqualification.

    2. Types of fouls:
      1. Biting, head-butting, spitting at an opponent.
      2. Use of the elbows.
      3. Intentionally spitting out mouth guard.
      4. Throwing, bending the back of opponent with Judo or Wresting techniques.
      5. Fall over while the opponent is lining on the floor.
      6. Attacking the opponent who is down or who is in the act of rising.
      7. Attacking while holding the ropes or making any unfair use of the ropes.
      8. Locking of the opponent’s arm or head.
      9. Completely passive defense by means of double cover and intentionally falling to avoid a hit.
      10. Useless, aggressive, or offensive utterance during the round.
      11. Assaulting or behaving in aggressive manner towards the referee at any time.
      12. Kneeing at groin of the opponent, if the competitor is unintentionally hit by a technique and unable to continue the fight, the referee will pause the fight for 5 minutes to allow the hit competitor to take a rest. If competitor refuses to resume the fight after 5 minutes rest he/she will be declared as "loser."
      13. Intentionally falling down to avoid being hit while his leg is held by the opponent.
      14. Sweeping with the instep of the foot is not allowed.
      15. Stepping, stomping, or falling on an opponent with the sole intention to hurt them is not allowed.
      16. Tripping of an opponent is not allowed.
      17. No ground fighting allowed.
  • 6.0 Weight Classifications
    All competitors shall be weighed in on the morning of the competition. The competitor’s weight, age, and level of experience will be used to match each bout. Pre-matching of bouts will be done as much as possible. All pre-matched bouts will be given priority to fight.
    Notes
    1. THE YEAR OF BIRTH WILL BE CONSIDERED, NOT THE DATE OF BIRTH.
    2. FIGHTERS MIGHT BE MOVED AROUND THE AGE GROUPS TO ACCOMMODATE LIMITED NUMBER OF FIGHTERS OR EXPERIENCE. COACHES/PARENTS WILL HAVE APPROVAL RIGHTS.
    3. THIS WEIGHT CLASS CAN BE MODIFIED AT ANY TIME BY KIDS FIGHT LEAGUE.

  • 7.0 Referees & Judges

    Each contest shall be controlled by a Referee who shall officiate in the ring but shall not score.

    Each contest shall be marked by three (3) Judges who shall be seated separately from the public and immediately adjacent to the ring. Each of the judge shall be posted (standing or seated) at one of the sides of the ring.
